Ive watched both and they both are great for their time periods. You really cant compare them because that was a very different time. They both deserve an Oscar. Both voices are like velvet. One is of Vintage Nostalgia, the other is of the current day world. Im a huge Gene Wilder fan, and the perfect compliment to him is Timothee who was the perfect choice. So glad they kept the modern version very true to the character. Both just lovely.
